Mike brings more than 24 years of patent and design experience to his work, with a track record spanning Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and international markets.
Before entering IP practice in 2001, he worked in research and development and project engineering, giving him a grounded understanding of how innovations are conceived, built and commercialised that most attorneys simply do not have.
That engineering background, combined with extensive experience in software patents, means Mike is equally at home with traditional mechanical and industrial technologies as he is with emerging technology sectors. He has drafted and prosecuted patent applications across a wide range of fields and jurisdictions, and his previous work in IP valuation adds a commercial dimension to his practice, helping clients understand not just how to protect their IP but how it adds value to a business, both strategically and financially.
Mike is also committed to education and mentoring, having lectured and mentored at the University of New South Wales, the University of Wollongong and the University of Sydney, and advised numerous startups through incubators and accelerators on IP strategy, ideation and commercialisation.
